Over the years, I have gone through hundreds of drafts of Wind
Hill. But I took breaks, between drafts, by looking at artwork on
the Internet. Of course, I would have preferred to view the art in
person, but because I lived in a remote area, the story tied me to
my room. On this page, I'd like to recreate those days when I
looked at art through my screen.

I looked for artwork until I found a piece that I wanted to
contemplate for long moments. Then I would revisit the piece
many times for days. It was a bit like meditating on another world.

As "art" in general is so vast, for this project, I've decided to
focus on artwork that relates to "words," "writing,"or
"manuscripts." And I'm using the term "writing" in the broadest
sense, to include the process of creating, building, and writing a
story.

I've always wished to view art in a particular way on the
screen—I've wanted to see an individual piece by itself on a
page, in its own venue. To do this, I asked the artists or the
organizations to kindly grant me permission to reproduce the
photographs of their works.

I looked for art that might be inspiring to writers—Chasing
Writing in Art. I hope the artwork presented here will
be inspirational to other writers as they have been to me.

I need to mention that the artists, curators, and collaborators I
introduce here do not have any relation to my novel or the
memoir.
